Stairing Through the Lens
In 2019 I commenced a project that involved taking portraits of musicians on stairs at music venues and music festivals across Australia.
As a wheelchair user stairs are typically somewhat of a barrier for me, so the project is all about taking back the power and showcasing artists in a different light and from a different perspective. The perspective of me in a wheelchair. The idea for the project is to publish the compilation of portraits as a book to initiate the conversation around accessibility and to raise awareness surrounding making music venues more accessible and inclusive.
A cause which is very important to me.
The project began with a portrait of 'Mallrat' taken at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne, and has since expanded to include a steadily growing collection of 190+ portraits taken across multiple stairs at venues across Australia. My deepest gratitude to every musician who is involved, and to each and every person who has supported this project.
